Private schools in Gig Harbor

One of the main reasons that folks move to Gig Harbor is because of our highly rated school system. I frequently have clients who work in Kent, Auburn, or Seattle who move to Gig Harbor because they want their kids in the Peninsula School District. With such a fantastic public school system, what is the need for private schools in Gig Harbor?
I had the pleasure of attending a large breakfast at Lighthouse Christian School in Gig Harbor this morning and once again was awed by what they are doing. I've got some pretty good ties with Lighthouse, having taught there part time myself back in '04 and having had my wife teach and coach there in '06 and '07. But having been away from the school for so long, it’s always eye-opening to go back.
The stories that were relayed in the video presentation and by the two alums (one is a current Bellarmine Prep senior, the other a GHHS and Gonzaga U grad) were just inspiring. I taught in a private Christian school for 7 years over in Tacoma prior to getting into real estate, and am very aware of the basic stereo-types of Christian education. Sacrificed academics, sheltered students, sub-par teachers, 2nd rate athletics, etc.
Lighthouse blows all of those stereo-types out of the water. They have an amazing staff of highly educated teachers (their goal of matching the PSD pay scale helps in this), a top of the line facility that is unmatched in the area, great athletics, and an admirable emphasis on community service.
I'd encourage any parents who have a desire to send their child to a private school in Gig Harbor to check out Lighthouse Christian. Their dedication to tuition assistance has truly made the school accessible to anybody. I'll be the first to champion the Peninsula School District, but I know that many parents just want options. In Gig Harbor, I believe that Lighthouse is the private school option that you may be looking for.
